According to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo, bankruptcies filed at the court decreased by 19 percent in 2011.  In 2010, a total of 8,461 bankruptcies were filed in the 21 counties the court handles, while only 6,853 bankruptcies were filed at the court last year.

Both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings decreased by 19 percent in 2011.  Last year, 6,129 Chapter 7 filings and 701 Chapter 13 filings were filed in Toledo.  These two types of bankruptcies are the most frequently filed bankruptcies.

Chapter 11 bankruptcies decreased slightly with only 2 fewer filed in 2011 than in 2010.  In total, 21 Chapter 11 bankruptcies were filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo last year.

Some experts believe that the decrease in bankruptcies in Toledo can be attributed to the credit market and banks being less aggressive about foreclosures.
